What is data logging

What is data logging and data collection?

Data logging is a process, that is much needed for measuring an electric or physical phenomonen like voltage, temperature, pressure or sound with a computer. At Data logging system could be made of sensors, measure hardware and a computer with programmable software. Unlike normal computers, the data logging computers are often much more efficient, have a big processor power and is flexible.

Different types of Data Logging

There are several types of data logging equipment on the market, but three basics are stand-alone data logging, web service or GUI based data logging systems and in the end wifi data logging servers.

If you use remote software to program a PLC, it would often be required to still temper and measure temperature, etc., to make sure that the machine is not overheating or similar, while programming. Data logging systems can send warnings via email or some even through SMS, making sure all standards are held.
